The Moon gates were a predominant feature in the renowned gardens of Old China, where they were considered essential for spiritual well being and were culturally important, as well as being aesthetically pleasing.
The Moon gate played a very important part in the spiritual awareness, philosophy and culture of people living historically in Old China. It was the tradition and custom of the people to sit and meditate by night in the garden and to contemplate and feel the moon’s presence in the circle. Hence the most appropriate name of Moon gate.
This garden has been designed for meditation and relaxation. The plants chosen have a specific function.
The functions are based on either the plant energies or the colour of the plants and flowers.
The colours of the other plants have a part to play as well, the blues and purples are the colours of the third eye and crown chakras, and the energies and colours from these plants will balance this area of the body and mind. Both these areas are used during meditation.
The whites in the plants and the pebbles are there to enhance the spiritual energies, which are white or pure light.
The planting to the side of the path is based on the chakra colours starting with red and working up through the orange, yellow, green and on to the blues and violets. The plant energies will balance and cleanse the chakras as you walk down the path to the seating area.
The garden is the only part of the school not to have been damaged in any way by the pupils in the last two years. The outside space is used for teaching and the pupils use it at break time to sit and relax in. We noticed that the children seem to appear to have been unplugged as soon as they enter the garden and calm down almost straight away. Which has made it a most valuable place when dealing with challenging pupils.

SENSORY GARDENS:

Designed to meet the specific requirements of a residential nursing home, the garden conceptual design uses plants for colour, energy and to aid and relax the senses. To add texture the design incorporated the use of tactile hard landscaping materials.
The borders were planted using plants/shrubs/trees with healing qualities.
MEDITATION GARDEN:

This design is a secret meditation garden combining a secluded area with a water feature to aid in relaxation and an arbour over the seating area to give that shaded and peaceful touch. The entrance is through the gap in the hedge and is totally enclosed for privacy.
SPIRITUAL GARDEN:

The design for this garden revolved around various desires expressed by our client, including hiding the pond filter and incorporating curves as well as reducing the patio area and providing an area to sit for quiet reflection. The planting was to give a balanced feel to the garden and increase the positive energies.
HEALING GARDEN:

This type of garden should be well balanced and harmonious to its surroundings as well as having an intense but relaxing energy and feel. The intensity will come from the type of plants used and the positions they are placed within the structure of the whole. This need for a high energy level is to aid in the rejuvenating and healing process. This design was done with all of the above in mind.
New Patio built, retaining stone wall and decking added.
